Are you suffering from migraines? Do you have pain in your jaw that just won’t go away? Worried about muscle pain in your shoulders, neck, and face that you can’t find a reason for? These could all be signs that you’re suffering from temporomandibular joint disorder, or TMD!

TMD is a painful condition that affects the joint connecting your jaw to your skull, and it can be completely debilitating! If you’ve been experiencing the symptoms of this condition, you don’t have to live with pain any longer! At Donaldson 3D Orthodontics, we can help you feel better, sleep more soundly, and eliminate the pain caused by TMD and teeth grinding!

What Is TMD?

The temporomandibular joint (TMJ), where you jaw meets your skull, is easily affected by a variety of problems in your face and jaw:

  • A misaligned bite
  • Previous trauma to your jaw or head
  • Teeth grinding and clenching (bruxism)

These problems can lead to an arthritis-like condition in your TMJ that causes a variety of symptoms:

  • Migraines and headaches
  • Muscle pain in the face, jaw, shoulders, neck, and temples
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Lockjaw
  • Difficulty chewing
  • Loosening teeth or a shifting bite

How We Relieve Your Pain

Dr. Buddy believes in a no-drugs approach to treating TMD, and we offer several appliance and treatment methods to help you feel better. Not only that, but we’re also able to identify the root of your TMD and treat you based on our findings.

We start with a comprehensive examination of your face, mouth, bone structure, and bite using our 3D scanning technology and other tools. We’ll also go through a series of questions with you to help determine if you have any habits that may be contributing to your pain.

Once we’ve determined the source of your discomfort, we’ll outline a treatment plan to help get you feeling better, sleeping more soundly, and living without pain!

With their amazing T-force bite analyzer, TruDenta is an excellent tool for diagnosis and treatment of TMD. We’ll use a series of trigger point, ultrasound, and other muscle and bone manipulation techniques to eliminate your pain and stop it from coming back!

Patients who have used TruDenta have reported an amazing 95% success rate! Dr. Buddy has been specially trained in this method, and it is an excellent solution for those suffering from this painful condition. Not only does TruDenta provide a great migraine and headache solution, but it also helps to bring back the sense of comfort that you may have lost a long time ago!

In some cases of deep muscle pain, we’ll be happy to refer you to a trusted local massage or physical therapist.

Oral Appliances

For some patients, treating TMD can be as simple as wearing a day or nightguard. This is especially true for patients who are experiencing discomfort due to bruxism. Using a digital impression of your mouth, we’ll craft you a comfortable and easy-to-wear mouthguard that you can wear night or day to cushion your teeth and prevent damage and pain.

Our nightguards are made of a hard, acrylic material that distributes forces when you bite down on it. Because nighttime bruxism often goes undetected, you run the risk of serious damage to your teeth if it goes untreated! We make our nightguards right in our office, so there won’t be any need to wait while it comes back from the dental lab! You’ll have relief quickly and when you need it!

Orthodontic Solutions

If our tests find out that you’re suffering from TMD due to bite-related issues, we’ll recommend braces or Invisalign. This can correct your bite and eliminate your pain, and it may have the added benefit of perfecting your smile while we’re at it!

Undiagnosed migraines, headaches, and muscle pain can make your life uncomfortable, but the solution may be easier than you think! If you’re ready to find out what’s causing your discomfort and get a solution once and for all, call us today at 337-465-4139! You can also make an appointment by submitting our online form.
