3D Orthodontics: How Does It Work?

This generally involves putting a rubber-like material in your mouth that takes an accurate impression of your smile but one that only shows us the visible parts of your teeth! While traditional impressions still have value when planning treatment there are far better ways available to us at our Broussard and New Iberia offices!
We employ one of the area’s only i-CAT FLX cone beam imaging machines. This amazing device gives us high-resolution 3D scans of your teeth, bone structure, and even soft tissue like muscles, nerves, and veins! It does all this with less radiation than a traditional panoramic X-ray, making it a far superior method for getting a look at your teeth!
Using this 3D image we can see exactly where each tooth sits from crown to root. Using this knowledge we can create the perfect treatment method for your unique smile! Our 3D orthodontic treatments are so efficient and effective we can actually fully correct your smile in as little as nine months! Traditional full-treatment orthodontics usually takes two years!
How Is Nine Month Orthodontic Care Possible?
In the past traditional orthodontics was based purely on a treatment model established at the beginning of the cycle. It would use a combination of 2D X-rays and physical models of your mouth to plan the movement of your teeth and how best to get there where they needed to go. While this worked it didn’t allow for efficient planning – just a treatment sequence that went from A to Z in one straight line.
That was then. Now we can see each little detail all throughout your treatment! Continued 3D scans allow us to modify your orthodontic sequence to account for any changes that happen along the way. By taking all of the “guesswork” out of orthodontic care we are able to move smoothly from beginning to end with any number of course corrections along the way!
